NUMBER OF JUVENILE DELINQUENTS, JAILED WOMEN DOWN
YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 24, ARMENPRESS:
The prison population in Abovyan correction facility has drastically decreased and now there are only 100 convicts, mainly juvenile delinquents and women. For comparisons some years ago it had 450 convicts.
Yura Jamalian, the chief of the prison, attributed the reduction to the ongoing prison reform and enactment of new criminal code which forgave many convicts sentenced for minor offenses. He also said that the overall number of juvenile delinquents and jailed women has went down.
