Montreal local chapter continues to sponsor renovation of maternal ward in Abovyan

Through sponsorship of Canadian-Armenian benefactors Vrej and Imastuhi Nikoghosian, the “Hayastan” All-Armenian Fund’s Montreal local chapter has launched the second stage of renovation of the maternal ward in Abovyan city of Kotayk province.

The program envisages full renovation of the birth-post-birth division located on the second floor of the hospital. We remind that the Fund renovated the maternal ward-operation room with support from the benefactors in 2010, and the termination of the current reconstruction will provide state-of-the-art services for patients at the hospital.

The three-story medical institution has been serving residents of Abovyan city and the surrounding 20 rural communities since 1986. “In 2011, nearly 1,250 children were born at the hospital. The women’s consultation room served nearly 1,320 pregnant women, while the maternal ward served 17,376 ambulatory and 2,583 regular patients. Residents of the distant provinces also come to our hospital. The good conditions are a plus to the confidence in the experts,” says general doctor at the hospital Larisa Madoyan.

Demolition is underway. The water supply, disposal and electric systems, as well as the floor, doors and windows will be replaced with new ones. The restrooms will be reconstructed to meet modern standards, and the hospital will also have fire extinguishing and air-conditioning systems.

“After explanations to employees of the maternal ward, there have been more women in the 30-60-year old age group visiting the hospital. The hospital provides free laboratory examinations, including an ultrasound exam and breast cancer exams. If doctors give a diagnosis, the patient undergoes treatment, which helps prevent further development of undesired diseases. This is a great achievement for us,” adds Madoyan.

“We highly appreciate the generosity toward the hospital, and on behalf of our beneficiaries, we express our gratitude to Chairperson of the Fund’s Montreal local chapter Antranig Sirinian and the Nikoghosians,” says Executive Director of the “Hayastan” All-Armenian Fund Ara Vardanyan.
