YEREVAN, JANUARY 19, ARMENPRESS:
The “Tartu” non-governmental organization has been conducting for two years a “Pyunik” cultural program for juvenile delinquents and women population at Abovian correction facility on funds, donated by the Open Society Institute. In the frameworks of the program the lessons of folk song-dance, computer, fine arts, theater art, and now pottery lessons are being organized. The fine arts, pottery and other works of art of the prisoners were exhibited in Yerevan, and in November-December of 2003 in Budapest, Brussels and New-York.
The chairman of the organization Temik Khalapian said that the aim of the program is to contribute to prisoners’ correction with the help of art. Temik Khalapian said this year some selected inmates will study wood engraving supported by the Open Society Institute’s funds.
