ABOVYAN-ԱԲՈՎՅԱՆ

On April the 22nd in the evening, the Abovyan musical hall was overcrowded. Here acted the national choir of Hungarian radio  with the head of Kalman Strausz. The program was composed of high responsibility. The concert was begun with Lord’s Prayer which was presented with pure, sounding and beautiful Armenian language exciting everyone up to tears. It was unique commemoration directed to the Armenian nation, to the audience. In April 1915 the Ottoman government embarked upon the systematic decimation of its civilian Armenian population. The persecutions continued with varying intensity until 1923 when the Ottoman Empire ceased to exist and was replaced by the Republic of Turkey. The Armenian population of the Ottoman state was reported at about two million in 1915. An estimated one million had perished by 1918, while hundreds of thousands had become homeless and stateless refugees. By 1923 virtually the entire Armenian population of Anatolian Turkey had disappeared.  

The Armenian Republican Party (ARP) marks its 15 years activity, and for that occasion many parties are being organized in every region of the Armenia. The competition which was carried out in the Abovyan Energetic collage pursued just that aim realized by the Shotokan Karate Federation of Kotayk region, president Samvel Hayrapetyan.

The Abovyan local TV channel “Narek” had its first experimental broadcast on March 10th and celebrated its new-coming. The founding director is Samvel Hakobyan, and the executive director – Valodya Hakobyan. “Narek” TV broadcasts its programs by 26 decimeter frequency every day at 17:00. The TV has its own programs which are created by combined efforts. Basically the programs are entertaining – literary, cultural, infantile and also intellectual for schoolchildren.
